Marshall Health Network celebrates Donate Life Month in April

This April, Marshall Health Network is joining the nationwide celebration of Donate Life Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donation. Throughout the month, we encourage individuals to register as donors and honor the generosity of those who have given the gift of life.

Tuesday, April 1
Rivers Health Cookie Sale Kickoff
Join us for our kickoff fundraiser where community members and staff can both donate homemade cookies and purchase treats in support of organ donation awareness. All proceeds benefit Donate Life initiatives. A tabletop setup will be available for anyone wishing to register as an organ donor.

Wednesday, April 2
Living Donor Day
This day highlights the lifesaving impact of individuals who donate a kidney or part of their liver to someone in need. This year’s speakers include two St. Mary's employees, Betty Waddell, APRN (donor) and Scotty Sparks (recipient), husband of Cindy Sparks, SMMC Nurse Manager.
Location: St. Mary’s Medical Center, Main Lobby, 2900 First Ave., Huntington.

Thursday, April 3
Donate Life Flag-Raising Ceremony
To kick off Donate Life Month, representatives from CHH, SMMC and Network for Hope will be present as the Donate Life flag is raised, following a brief ceremony.
SMMC will also observe the statewide Pause to Give Life event at 10:03 a.m., to highlight that one donor can save eight lives with a moment of prayer, via intercom throughout the hospital.

Friday, April 4
Network for Hope Bake Sale
Baked goods will be available for purchase, supporting Network for Hope (NFH). Representatives from Cabell Huntington Hospital and NFH will be available to register organ donors and answer questions regarding organ donation.

Thursday, April 10
Network for Hope Selfie Station
A selfie station will be available for community members who wish to take photos and post to social media in recognition of Donate Life Month.

Friday, April 11
Donate Life Blue and Green Day
As part of National Donate Life Blue and Green Day, staff and community members are encouraged to wear blue and green to show their support for organ, eye and tissue donation. Special t-shirts will also be available to purchase at An Added Touch (CHH) or Madeleine’s Boutique and Unique Gifts (SMMC) gift shops.
Donate Life Flag-Raising Ceremony at Rivers Health
As part of National Donate Life Blue and Green Day, RH and the Center for Organ Recover and Education (CORE) will raise the Donate Life flag after a brief ceremony. Speakers will include hospital staff and an organ recipient.

Tuesday, April 22
Donate Life Memorial Service
Representatives from SMMC and Network for Hope will host a memorial service to remember patients who donated organs in the past year. Leaves will be placed on the Tree of Life located on the second floor of the main hospital.

Monday, April 28
Organ Donor Registration
Representatives from CHH and Network for Hope will be registering organ donors and answering questions regarding organ donation. Treat bags will be available for attendees.

Wednesday, April 30
Donate Life Memorial Service and Tree Planting
Representatives from CHH and Network for Hope will host a memorial service to remember patients who donated tissue or organs in the past year. Following the service, a tree will be planted outside in memory of those who gave the selfless gift of organ donation.
Location: Outside of Edwards Cancer Center, 1400 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington. If it rains, location scheduled for the CHH Chapel, located on the 1st floor above the registration area.
Time: 10 a.m.
Rivers Health Donate Life Awareness Walk/Run
Join us as we celebrate the success of the hospital throughout Donate Life Month. Everyone is encouraged to wear Blue & Green or their favorite Donate Life t-shirt. A final registration opportunity will be provided and then proceed to the marked walking path on hospital grounds.
