Surgery
St. Mary's Medical Center's surgical suite, which consists of 16 operating rooms and two cystoscopy rooms, is designed to accommodate routine, specialty, emergency and trauma procedures. We perform general surgery, as well as specialties including urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gynecology, cosmetic surgery, ophthalmology and otolaryngology.
St. Mary’s neurosurgery department has the only 0-arm, which provides intraoperative CAT scan, in West Virginia. The surgical services department also has the only open-heart suites in the Huntington area, as well as two da Vinci® robots for a robust robotic surgery program. Our specially trained staff is devoted to excellence in providing quality care and is guided by the mission and values of St. Mary's Medical Center.
St. Mary’s Surgery is led by Maurice Saleme, MD, who performs colonoscopies and endoscopies. St. Mary’s Surgery is located at 2828 First Ave., Suite 205, Huntington, WV 25702. For more information, call 304.399.7290.
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The PACU, commonly known as the recovery area, is adjacent to the surgical suite. The PACU staff consists of registered nurses who are prepared to care for patients, from routine to critically ill. Patients who are given general, regional, spinal or monitored anesthesia care will probably spend time in this suite after their procedure. Patients generally stay one hour after a procedure but may stay longer depending upon how quickly they are recovering from the anesthetic.
Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)
Staff members in pre-admission testing, which is located on the second floor of the ambulatory surgery center, interview patients to get their medical history and arrange testing and X-rays prior to the invasive procedure. Our goal is to accommodate your needs. We will make an appointment to arrange a visit at your convenience.
Ambulatory Surgery
This 29-bed unit is located on the first floor of the ambulatory surgery building. If you are an outpatient or are being admitted to the medical center on the day of your surgery, you will go to this department to be prepared for surgery.
Endoscopy
St. Mary's endoscopy suite is located on the first floor of the ambulatory surgery center. There are four procedure rooms for outpatient and inpatient cases. Procedures range from upper endoscopies and colonoscopies to specialized pancreatic and biliary cases. Patients who need endoscopic ultrasound or pain management procedures, including nerve blocks, epidural and cervical blocks, will be in the endoscopy suite.
