St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus Laboratory Awarded Accreditation

Marshall Health Network - St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC) Ironton campus laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Dougherty, medical director, the laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities nationwide.

“This CAP accreditation is confirmation of the excellent services our dedicated staff at SMMC Ironton provides every single day,” said Matthew Brooks, MLS(ASCP)^CM, director of clinical laboratory services, MHN. “Our recent inspection was one of the best at the Ironton campus.”

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs and records, and overall management.
