Trauma and Orthopedic injuries are being temporarily routed to St. Mary’s Medical Center
Tuesday, July 7, 2020
Mountain Health Network (MHN) is continuing to provide full hospital and emergency services for trauma patients and persons with orthopedic injuries. Emergency Medical System (EMS) transports of patients with trauma or orthopedic injuries are being temporarily routed to St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC).
In accordance with the CDC Guidelines, certain staff with exposure to COVID-19 patients in the community, or unprotected exposure in the workplace are placed on self-isolation with monitoring. These exposures are monitored through Employee Health with guidance from infectious disease specialists and the health departments from the county of residence. Although we track exposures, there is no outbreak of COVID-19 illness among staff.
Thus far, exposures or self-isolation have not affected the safety or ability of MHN to provide trauma/ortho services, although certain adjustments are being made to optimize staffing and patient care until the 14-day self-isolation time period for certain exposed staff has passed. These self-isolation measures are taken out of an abundance of caution to protect our patients, staff and community.
The normal odd/even day rotation of Level II Trauma Center designation was suspended today to allocate system resources to support SMMC temporarily as the designated full time Trauma Center.
