Department of Pharmacy and Drug Information
The St. Mary's Medical Center Department of Pharmacy and Drug Information provides systems-based services including drug and disease state information, drug preparation and distribution, and dosage monitoring services for all patients. All physician orders for medications are reviewed by a clinical pharmacist for appropriateness of therapy and entered into the pharmacy system.
The provision of direct patient care services is accomplished via a progressive approach, utilizing both centralized and de-centralized drug delivery methods and pharmacist presence. Clinical pharmacy specialists and staff clinical pharmacists are active, integral members of the healthcare team.
The pharmacy staff provides patient and health-care provider education; participates in Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting and Medication Incident programs; participates in investigational drug research, drug and therapeutic policy development and implementation, and other cost and quality enhancement programs/projects.

Facilities
The central pharmacy department, two satellite pharmacies, and remote clinical specialist offices support the delivery of product-related and clinical services to patients and healthcare providers.

Main Pharmacy: 24 hours/day
O.R. Satellite: 6a - 2p, M-F
Outpatient:
- 7a - 4p Tuesday-Thursday
- 9a - 4p Monday and Friday
Patient Care Needs
SMMC pharmacy technicians and pharmacists provide 2.5 million inpatient doses, 275,000 sterile admixtures, 47, 000 outpatient prescriptions, and provide daily evidence-based therapeutic recommendations resulting in positive quality and financial outcomes.

Pharmaceutical care is the responsible provision of drug therapy for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life. All pharmacy staff and students at SMMC share in the ultimate responsibility for patient outcomes.
The Department is committed to bring together pharmacy practitioners whose clinical expertise, research, and educational backgrounds will advance patient-oriented practice through the provisions of pharmaceutical care and education of patients, physicians, nurses, and other health-care providers.
The Department shall be committed to provide educational services and conduct research consistent with being part of a teaching center. These activities include developing and maintaining professional and technical competence of its staff and providing didactic instruction and clinical training for undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students, residents, and fellows in the health professions.
