St. Mary’s Medical Center Celebrates 100 Years of Service with Centennial Celebration and Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Honoring the Pallottine Missionary Sisters and former CEO Michael Sellards

St. Mary’s Medical Center celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special centennial celebration on Nov. 6, 2024, honoring a century of service to the community. This landmark occasion featured the induction of two exemplary honorees, the Pallottine Missionary Sisters and former St. Mary’s CEO Michael Sellards, into the St. Mary’s Wall of Fame, recognizing their indelible contributions to the hospital and its legacy of compassionate health care.

St. Mary’s Medical Center was founded in 1924 by the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, who sought to bring high-quality, faith-based health care to the community. Their legacy of service and faith continues to shape the values of St. Mary’s and the broader health care community. Michael Sellards, former CEO, served St. Mary’s from 2000-2019, overseeing transformative growth, expansion and innovation that solidified the hospital’s reputation as a leader in health care.

The Pallottine Missionary Sisters were honored during the Centennial Celebration and Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony held Nov. 6, 2024.

A centennial mass was held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2024, with The Most Rev. Mark Brennan, Bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. The centennial celebration took place later that evening, at 6 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Conference Center. The program included a formal Wall of Fame induction ceremony, remarks from hospital leadership, a historical presentation and a dinner reception for community members, staff and special guests. The Wall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant contributions to St. Mary’s, embodying the hospital’s mission to provide innovative care.
