St. Mary's Medical Center Tri-State Triathlon, Kids Try-A-Triathlon
The annual St. Mary's Tri-State Triathlon and the St. Mary's Kids Try-A-Triathlon will take place at Beech Fork Lake on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1.
The St. Mary's Tri-State Triathlon
The St. Mary's Tri-State Triathlon will begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 1 and includes three separate races - a triathlon, triathlon relay and duathlon. The triathlon consists of a half-mile swim, 15-mile bike ride and 2.9-mile loop run. In the duathlon, the swim course is replaced by a 2.9-mile loop run in the opposite direction of the previous loop. Races use computer-chip timing.
All participants will receive T-shirts, and there will be a Dean Ornish spaghetti dinner the night before the event at HIMG at 5170 Rt. 60 East (located at the old Walmart building at exit 15 on I-64). The time for the dinner and packet pick-up is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 31st.
Race awards include custom-made medals and awards from Blenko Glass. There also will be an award for the best relay team name. Awards will be given to age groups organized by decade for males and females in the triathlon and duathlon, as well as Clydesdale and Athena awards in the triathlon. Relay awards are for the first three teams in female, male and mixed categories.
There will be no race-day registration.
The St. Mary's Kids Try-A-Triathlon
Registration for the St. Mary's Kids Try-A-Triathlon for ages 6-14 will begin at 8:30 a.m. on July 31 at Beech Fork Lake. Races consist of either a 50- or 100-yard swim, a two- or four-mile bike course, and a one- or two-mile run, depending on the age group.
The 6 to 7 age group and 8 to 9 age group will compete together, but awards will be separate for both male and female finishers. The same is true for 10 to 11 and 12 to 14 age groups.
